Add client filters or diagnostics

Client filter templates have been created to assist you in identifying files that could be affected by a situation that was the subject of a Troubleshooting Memo for one of the 2013 Personal Taxprep versions.

In addition, diagnostic templates have been created to warn you of possible errors or particular tax situations that were the subject of a troubleshooting memo for one of the 2013 versions of Personal Taxprep.

Furthermore, a client filter and diagnostic template has been created to assist you in identifying files that could be affected by a situation that was the subject of a Troubleshooting Memo for one of the 2013 Personal Taxprep versions and in order to warn you of possible errors or particular tax situations that were the subject of the same Troubleshooting Memo.

The following procedure provides you with instructions for downloading and using these templates.

Download a client filter, a diagnostic or a client filter and diagnostic template

To download a filter or a diagnostic, click the appropriate link in one of the lists below and save the file in the predefined folder for filters and diagnostics.

Find the location for the client filters, the diagnostics or the client filter and diagnostic template

To find the predefined folder for customized client filters or diagnostics, proceed as follows:

  1. Launch Personal Taxprep.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options and Settings.
  3. Under Options, click File Locations.
  4. Verify the predefined location for the filters and diagnostics. After the installation, the default location is usually the following: My Documents\CCH\T1 Taxprep 2013\Filter and Diagnostics\.

Using the client filter template

  • Display the Client Manager. If your files are not displayed, click the Search In: button, then select the folder(s) where the files are located.
  • Click the Current View button, then in My Filters select the filter that you just added.

Using the diagnostic template

To display the diagnostics from the active return, proceed as follows:

  • In the Form Manager, open Form Diagnostics (Jump Code: DIAGNOSTICS).
  • On the View menu, click Diagnostics.
  • Press Alt+F5.
  • Click available on the Advanced toolbar.

If the active return contains the error detected by the program, the added diagnostic will display in the My diagnostics tab of the diagnotics pane.

Using the client filter and diagnostic template

The client filter and diagnostic template provides you with the advantages of both the client filter template and the diagnostic template. Therefore, once downloaded and saved in the folder defined for the client filter and diagnostic template, this template can be used with the above-described procedures in the “Using the client filter template” and “Using the diagnostic template” sections.
